What about Hand cut cobbles vs mesh backed cobbles?

Mesh backed cobbles are good for small areas, but have some disadvantages.

With mesh cobbles there is more wastage as the mesh does not exactly fit into the spaces required, you need to cut the excess cobbles away. Individual cobbles can be formed into any patterns you like.

Mesh cobbles are also harder to set in the mortar bed and are thinner and so not suitable for driveways, heavy traffic, or roads.
